Just made this lure from an old mini starter motor and some other bits and pieces i had about. used a plastic mig spool im hoping it will be ok. i need to get some thick cable it melted the house hold cable i used.

does anyone know what cord i should use and were can i get it from? will i need guides on the ground to keep it straight.

hi old skool,

get down the scrappy's and get some battery cable pos and neg off of a car as "normal" cable won't take the amps that are being kicked out.

As for line .... sea fishing line ?, braided nylon string from ironmongers or dralon cord from a kite

shop springs to mind as you can buy this in 100 meter spools.

yes i think you will need a guide something along the lines of a Fairlead used on 4x4 winches just

smaller poss with a spring tensioner (rear derailer from a push bike? ) to keep the string under tension

as it is being fed onto the spool otherwise it could all tangle up

here is one i prepared earlier....... :D:D

I have been looking into this for some time and the picture above i have been useing as a reference

for the one i am building ;) except that i want to bolt it into the back of my van ..... its a sailplane launching winch and judging by the response from blando it could be quite a nice little earner..:hmm::whistle:

here is a link that could be usefull as well as it not far off what you have built so far

howto build a lure machine

thats a very tidy job, kite string i did not think of that, thanks! what did you use for the reel looks very nice! cant wait to get it going i think i have rushed it a bit so mite redo al the framework sometime.

in tearms of getting a dog fit, do they help tone up the muscle much if done daily aswell as a walk as this was they main reason for making it?

hi blando thank for that. this is a pic of mine, not as nice as the one anton is showing but does the job. i will change the fan motor for a starter motor as soon as i get one. but im going to look into that one anton is buliding, looks a lot better and tidier. thanks buddy

cheers lads,

As i said i've been useing that pic for reference.

i have the frame, motor, cable and connectors all ready and sorted it was just the spool that i was stumped on!!! a mig coil looks just the job just a tad too big in the height, might be able to turn it down a bit on my lathe. bit risky though as they are not that thick wall :hmm:

looks like i'll have to drag it back out again and start before some b****r beats me to it and makes a killing

on Ebay :(:D:D

hi anton if you thinking of a mig coil you can get smaller one's than the one ive used, i changed it because it wasent quick enough, so i thought a bigger coil would bring it in quicker. but i think il need to change the motor to get it quick enough for the whippet.
